Drawings |
I feel a sketch is just as viable a way to capture a memory as a twelve hour drawing. I look at these drawings as finished snapshots; intimate in their scale, precious as a memory, and demanding in their execution. The moment is lost and the drawing is the only thing left.
Photography |
The snapshot often reflects the same choices I would make when drawing a moment. Just as parts of a drawing are abstracted or omitted, parts of a photograph are blurred. The following photographs are from a personal archive of over 40,000 separate moments from the past ten years.
Mixed Media |
Painting non-objectively is my visual calisthenics. In the past few years I have begun giving ideas to the images. As of 2010 I have begun adding color to portraits. Media used: shoe polish, spray paint, acrylic, graphite, ink, collage, pastel, chalk, chalk pastel, crayon, and more. |
